This past year has been a defining one for Lowther. Not because of scale or volume, but because of focus. We returned to first principles, deepened how we listen to you, our customers, and quietly expanded what it means to own a Lowther instrument. It’s been great to have you along for the ride.

A century comes full circle

This year we shipped our first complete pair of Voigt Horns to a private customer, marking the first time in almost 100 years that Paul Voigt’s original mathematics has been realised as a finished stereo instrument by Lowther. It was not a revival for nostalgia’s sake, but a confirmation that the fundamentals were right all along.

Opening our doors

For the first time, we welcomed visitors into our workshop and listening space. Our open day was about transparency, conversation, and listening without pressure, offering a rare view into how Lowther instruments are made and experienced.

We look forward to more of these in the coming year.

“Over last weekend, quite by chance, I was fortunate enough to attend two open days held by the Lowther loudspeaker company in Northampton hosted by Martin Thornton and Malcolm Williamson. It was a spectacular experience.

I had the great pleasure of hearing some of their latest reincarnations of original Voight 4ft and 2ft horns with the new Lowther supertweeters driven by a beautiful repro Lowther valve amplifier (built by John Howes) and a Sony Reel to Reel tape recorder. The latest iterations of their field coils drivers amazing.

The sound was sublime by any standards but particularly when you take into account that the original Voight horn designs are now nearly 100 years old!”

Dave King, Lowther Listener

A renewed focus on commissioning and listening

Throughout the year we expanded our private listening and commissioning experience in Northampton. More time, more context, and more direct dialogue allowed each system to be shaped around the listener rather than the product.

The Lowther Field Coil

We released the Lowther Field Coil, returning to an approach that prioritises control, speed, and musical authority above convenience. Built without compromise, it represents the most direct expression of the Lowther drive unit philosophy.

Drive unit collections defined

We introduced clearly defined drive unit collections, bringing structure and clarity to nearly a century of development. Each collection now reflects a distinct level of craft, material choice, and performance, while remaining unmistakably Lowther.

The PX4 amplifier

The Lowther PX4 amplifier completed the signal chain. Designed around a classic British valve and voiced specifically for our high-efficiency instruments, it reinforces our belief in simple circuits and meaningful power.

Reference cables

Our reference cables were introduced quietly and deliberately. Designed to preserve signal integrity, they complete the system without imposing a character of their own.

The new Acousta Quarter Wave

We introduced the new Quarter Wave to our masterpiece line, refining the 1960’s Corner Acousta while maintaining its principles with modern materials and careful geometry. It offers scale and coherence while remaining adaptable to real living spaces. And all in our smallest footprint yet.

The Lowther super tweeter

Our new super tweeter was introduced to extend resolution and spatial detail while remaining sympathetic to the full-range driver.

A 10 Year Warranty

We moved to a fully direct-to-customer model and introduced a 10-year warranty across our latest instruments. Together, these changes reflect our commitment to long-term ownership and direct support. They also set the foundation for the Lowther Listening Circle launching next year, a quieter and more personal way to share knowledge, music, and stewardship with those who truly listen.

What’s Next?

The 2ft Voigt Horns

This year also saw the development of the 2ft Voigt Horn, a smaller and more room-friendly interpretation of an original but largely unknown Voigt design. Designed to be suspended from the ceiling, positioned on stands, or paired with its own bass unit, it brings the same first-principles thinking of the 4ft Voigt Horn into spaces where scale and flexibility matter. It is intended to introduce Voigt’s fundamental ideas to more people, and to environments such as listening bars, where music is shared rather than demonstrated.

The Listening Circle

Next year we will be launching the Lowther Listening Circle. This is a community built around listening, not selling.

A Lowther Ambassador represents the brand through their love of music and sound. Their role is to create relaxed listening moments, invite others to hear Lowther speakers in natural, lived-in settings, and help keep traditional two-channel hi-fi relevant in a modern world. Ambassadors host informal listening sessions, share their own experiences with Lowther, and act as a trusted point of introduction for those who are curious.

There are no sales targets and no pressure. The focus is on conversation, community, and letting the music speak for itself.

To support this, ambassadors are able to purchase selected Lowther items at cost for demonstration purposes, up to and including the AudioVector. Where an introduction leads to a bespoke commission, ambassadors also receive a referral commission, recognising the time, care, and trust involved in those relationships.

Ambassadors receive early access to new developments, private listening opportunities, and direct dialogue with the workshop, alongside long-term support from Lowther.
